The 1912 Olympic marathon course
The marathon race in Stockholm 1912 went north from the Olympic Stadium to the Sollentuna Church where the turning point was and then back the same way.
Today there is a stone commemorating the turning point. The distance of the race was 40 200 metres. The 1912 course had four water stations which was not enough in the hot weather conditions. The first water station was at Stocksund after 5 kilometres, the second at Tureberg after 15 kilometres, the third in Tureberg on the way back after 25 kilometres and the fourth in Stocksund after 35 kilometres. The athletic club Fredrikshof was in charge of the 1912 Olympic marathon race. This club will provide officials also for the Jubilee Marathon Stockholm 1912 – 2012.
